DOES THIS COURSE MEET NSW FAIR TRADING REQUIREMENTS?

Yes it does. Our partnered Edway Training RTO No 91401 nationally accredited owner builder course meets all the educational requirements set out by Fair Trading NSW.
If the value of work (labour and materials, Inc. GST) exceeds $20,000, you must complete our (Edway Training RTO No 91401) NSW Owner Builder online course and White Card Work Safely in the construction industry CPCWHS1001 (Training Aid Australia RTO No 91411) zoom course or you can book face to face . It does not matter in which order you complete the White Card / Owner Builder courses.

NSW Owner Builder Course is the mandatory course that all individuals must complete prior to being eligible to apply for an NSW Owner Builder Permit. Our nationally accredited owner builder course meets all the educational requirements set out by Fair Trading NSW.

NSW OWNER BUILDER COURSE DETAILS

Our online owner builder course meets all the educational requirements set out by Fair Trading NSW which includes the following units of competency:
  • CPCCWHS2001 Apply WHS requirements, policies and procedures in the construction industry
  • CPCCOM2001 Read and interpret plans and specifications
  • CPCCCM1011 Undertake basic estimation and costing
  • CPCCOM1013 Plan and organise work
  • CPCCOM1014 Conduct workplace communication

An Owner Builder is a homeowner who holds a Permit and performs the traditional role of a licensed builder and manages construction work that is being carried out on his or her own residential premises. As part of the project, an Owner Builder orders building materials and engages contractors directly to carry out construction work, and they effectively manage the whole project in the same way that a licensed builder normally would.

Course Information
In addition to the Owner Builder Course, you need to hold a White Card (known as the unit CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry). It is a safety course for all individuals who carry out work in the construction industry.
Please note that the online course has a 6 month expiry period (from the date of the confirmation email). After this period you will need to pay the full course fee again and start from the beginning. There are no refunds for non-completion.
If you do not currently hold a White Card, you will need to complete our White Card Course.
If you already hold a White Card that has been issued:less than 2 years ago, you will be able to commence our Owner Builder Course without having to complete the White Card Course again.more than 2 years ago, and you have not been working in the construction industry, you will need to register and complete our current White Card Course.You can complete a face-to-face White Card course or remotely White Card connected delivery via ZOOM.

Applying for Owner Builder Permit
After completion of the course, the course participants need to apply for an Owner Builder Permit. It is to be done online or in person through Service NSW. In addition to your project documentation and proof of ownership, you will be required:
to provide evidence of meeting Owner-builder approved education requirement which is providing the Statement of Attainment
to present a copy of White Card (Note: the SafeWork NSW certificate is not accepted, it must be the plastic card)

Eligibility to get Owner Builder Permit
To receive a Owner Builder Permit in NSW, you need to meet the eligibility criteria, which include, but not limited to:
be at least 18 years of age
own, or have a prescribed interest in, the residential land where the construction work will to be carried out
live or intend to live in the completed home
the building work has not been started
the property is not part of a multi-dwelling strata complex
you’ll live in the property after the building work is complete

Course Requirements
In addition to the Owner Builder Course, the course participants must hold a General Construction Induction card (also known as White Card).
If you do not currently hold a White Card, you will need to complete our White Card Course.
If you already hold a White Card that has been issued:
less than 2 years ago, you will be able to commence our Owner Builder Course without having to complete the White Card Course again;
more than 2 years ago, and you have not been working in the construction industry, you will need to register and complete the White Card Course.
You can complete a face-to-face White Card course or White Card Connected Delivery via ZOOM.

USI (Unique Student Identifier)
From 1 January 2015, every student who undertakes nationally recognised Vocational Education and Training (VET) in Australia is required to have a USI.
STATEMENT OF ATTAINMENT CANNOT BE ISSUED if a participant fails to produce a valid USI number. Register your USI via www.usi.gov.au
Worksafe section 316 (b) of the WH&S Regulation states
If you already hold a White Card that has been issued:
  • less than 2 years ago, you will be able to complete our NSW Owner Builder Course and apply for an Owner Builder Permit using your existing White Card
  • 2 or more years ago, and you have not been working in the construction industry, you will need to complete a current White Card Course in addition to the NSW Owner Builder Course in order to be able to apply for an Owner Builder Permit.
NSW Worksafe advise there are increasing cases of DIY’s suffering from asbestos disease through renovating houses\ commercial properties built before 1990.
NSW Worksafe highly recommend that owner builders undertaking renovations on a house/ commercial space built before 1990 complete an Asbestos Awareness course
