As an owner builder you are responsible for insurance over your residential project, including liabilities to third parties via public liability.
For owners and projects located in Tasmania, owner builder insurance is a must and is required by Government Building legislation.
Policies can be provided to cover public liability, loss or damage (fire, water, storm, impact and theft of materials) to your project whilst works are taking place before your new property is finished, certified and ready for occupancy.
During the project, if your works in progress are damaged by rain, storm, fire, impact or vandalism an Owner Builders Insurance Policy can respond and potentially cover and help pay for rectification, rebuild or for works to recommence.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD)


A reminder to all contractors and licensed practitioners.
Recent audits have identified that many practitioners do not maintain an accurate record of their recent CPD activities. This record is often requested upon an application to renew the licence. Failure to produce this record will delay the progress of your application and may result in your request for renewal being declined.
There are cases where practitioners have had to take leave from work due to them not being licensed and therefore unable to work as a practitioner. Avoid this by maintaining and producing the record when requested by CBOS.

The main details to record are:
the date
the training course
the training provider
number of CPD points
certificate of attendance or attainment - in most cases, training providers issue you with evidence of attendance or attainment. Examples include certificates, academic records, attendance records, or receipts if you purchased or hired learning resources.
